Healthy and Sustainable Planet – Background and Proposal

While each of us has a personal responsibility to do what we can to “save the earth,” what is desperately needed is for our public institutions to step up. Around the globe, voters have realized that the climate crisis is real and imminent, and they have elected Greens to ensure that their governments deal with the crisis.

We will push for greatly increased state and federal level support of energy-efficient transportation systems, renewable energy production, healthy agriculture, and enforceable international agreements to reduce environmental damage, and restore our planet. Public power and other utilities rather than private utilities like PG&E will increase our safety from wildfires and other preventable disasters, and reduce costs resulting from the disasters.

As to our individual efforts, a well-kept secret is that we can live more happily while living more lightly on the Earth, with an emphasis on the first “R” in the phrase “Reduce Reuse Recycle.” We can do less damage to the Earth and spend less money, for example, doing music and other arts, and spending more time in nature.
