Mark your calendar for May Day. It’s happening on Friday, May 1, 2026. Look for updates on this No Kings website and other websites as plans develop.
No Kings Day gave me some hope. Yes, Trump as an individual was a major focus, but not the only focus. There were many clever signs about Trump’s personal promise-breaking, war-making, money-taking policies, but there was more than that. People gathered together to PROTEST AGAINST what we don’t want, and RALLY FOR what we do want.
We have basically three ways to advance toward a better world: fight the bad, build the good, and change the system. We want all three, no one way is “the only way.” Related to our individual gifts and wounds, we are each drawn to different aspects of this big movement for change, and we can even change over time.
I believe the elements we need include:
– A huge social movement, in which we understand that we will not always agree with other people’s beliefs and tactics, and sometimes we’ll disagree very strongly. But, if they are basically going for a better world, it helps build the movement if we work with them when we can.
– A change in consciousness, where we see the interconnectedness of everything, and we are willing and able to face problems squarely and deal with them, whether the problem is the enormous existential threat of climate catastrophe, or the dangerous inequality of wealth and power, within our own country, and between our own country — the empire! — and the rest of the world.
– And we need a strong electoral arm of the movement. People often express the desire for a “new” political party, one that is squarely on the side of the 99%. That “new party” just might be the Green Party. The party has interconnected 10 key values, refuses corporate and billionaire money and influence, and gets how domestic and foreign policy interact. Do we want war or environment, inequality or democracy, authoritarianism or justice?
Electorally, there’s hope from abroad. In the UK the Green Party is surging in the polls and winning elections against England’s traditional labor and conservative parties. May we make it happen here!
May Day May Day!
A very hopeful result of No Kings Day is that plans are being developed to make May Day a huge event. Again, mark your calendar for May Day on Friday, May 1, 2026, and look for updates on this No Kings website and others as plans develop.
No matter which team is in power in the White House — Blue or Red or one-fine-day Green — we the people need to start using a lot more of the power we really do have, as we build toward the world we want for ourselves, our children, and our entire planet.
A better world is possible.
