UPDATE IN PROGRESS. This Controller 2022 page will be updated shortly to show vote results for the June primary election. Our results exceeded expectations! We in California and the US live in a “locked-down, bought-out, two-party system” that aggressively creates and increases hurdles for alternative political parties, unlike the 90+ countries in the world with Proportional Representation. A PR system empowers voters to freely vote for truly progressive political parties. A lot of credit for our increased vote results goes to the historic Left Unity Slate as described below, and the endorsements the slate members received from strong grassroots organizations.

I am very excited to be running for California State Controller as part of a historic Left Unity Slate. The Green Party of California has joined with the Peace and Freedom Party to create a Left Unity Slate of seven statewide candidates. The primary election will be June 7, 2022, and we would love your votes and support as we campaign to make California more Green, Peaceful, and Free — values that are in our names!
The Left Unity Slate gives us all a chance to advance the shared values of our two political parties, and of the majority of Californians! There are solutions for great healthcare, economy, education, and environment, but politicians financed by billionaires and corporations won’t implement them. If they win, you don’t! California has led the way in the past, and California can lead the nation again. We have alternatives to the billionaires’ two-party system. This year you can vote for a Left Unity Slate!
What Does the State Controller Do?
The basic job of Controller is to “follow the money” and report to the boss — and the boss is the public. I believe people want life to be better for themselves, for their families, and for others in the future and around the world. I see that as a realistic goal, and my job as Controller is to help prove it. Here are a few key solutions that would both save us money overall, and improve our lives.
- Public banking, so that our state and localities invest in California, not Wall Street.
- Tax the super rich, the way they were taxed sixty years ago when the rich could still get richer, but not obscenely so. Stop the 0.1% from having so many resources that they can buy politicians and media, and then obstruct every effort we make toward a better world for ourselves and future generations.
- Implement the kind of healthcare system that other wealthy industrialized countries (and many not-so-wealthy!) provide for the health of their people, with less public and private cost, and better results.
- Use water much more wisely, and never for fracking.
- Spend less money imprisoning people in an unjust system.
- Spend money on necessary, meaningful jobs that don’t destroy the planet.
Another world is possible, with organizing, support, solidarity, and good luck.
