Welcome

Who Do We Think We Are?

Big peace rallies are starting up again.

Hoping lots of people will find a way to BE THERE at rallies for peace. A big rally is happening in Washington DC on Saturday, March 18 at 1:00 p.m. and other rallies around the country are also expected that weekend. Find more information at CODEPINK and the ANSWER Coalition.

WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE?

I believe that we in the US can do more toward peace if we take more responsibility for our own government’s actions, and do everything we can to stop our government’s destructive interference in other countries. US interference includes promoting military solutions and the weapons industry, discouraging negotiations and diplomacy, imposing sanctions and blockades, and funding the opposition elites (as in Latin America and Africa) to weaken governments that are more aligned with their people than with the private interests of the United States.

It is not our job to police the world, especially when we have plenty of problems at home. Our government spends billions on weapons, meanwhile it has not implemented solutions that exist for better justice, healthcare, housing, education, and environment. We need this growing peace movement!

DOES IT DO ANY GOOD?

People often ask, “Do rallies and marches do any good?” I believe that people standing together for what we want is always worthwhile. Besides, it’s a good way to spend time with a companion for a good cause, or to see lots of people we know, almost like having a party and not having to prepare in advance or clean up after. Also, it’s open air which is great these days.

I personally believe that any actions or steps we take, toward the world we want, really do help — especially when we act in community and solidarity with other folks.

“¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!”
The people united will never be divided — or conquered!
